Border Land School Division believes in allowing flexibility for its staff. This flexibility must not cause disruption to student learning.
Procedure
Partial leave requests will be examined on a case by case basis. After two consecutive years of a partial leave, the employee must decide whether to return to the conditions of his/her contract or formally request to have the contract reduced permanently to the part-time allotment.
Partial leave requests shall be submitted in writing to the Superintendent prior to April 21st. The granting of such leave is at the sole discretion of the Board.
Leave Extensions
Extensions to leaves will be considered only if the projected return date coincides with the end of the first half of the school year or the start of the following school year.
Note: The first half of the school year would be the date the students return after the Christmas holidays for K-8 schools, or the start of the second semester in semester or partial semester grade 9- 12 schools.
Extensions beyond a total of two consecutive years leave, including secondments will not be considered.
