In the interest of recognizing and respecting individual religious beliefs, the Border Land School Division authorizes paid leave for up to three (3) days per school year for major religious holy days observed by the teacher and designated as days of obligation by the teacher’s religion. The procedural requirements follow.

Procedure

Teachers are not to absent themselves without first securing permission from the Superintendent.  The request shall be made through the principal in written form.  The written request shall be made at least ten (10) working days prior to the date of religious leave.

  • Where written request does not result in appropriate notice, the Division reserves the right to deduct the cost of a substitute teacher suitable to the Division for that day.

In every situation the Division will act reasonably and fairly having regard to all circumstances.

Border Land School Division

Border Land School Division acknowledges that the communities and schools located within Border Land School Division sit on Treaty 1 and Treaty 3 land, the original lands of the Anishinaabe peoples and on the homeland of the Métis Nation.
