SPECIAL USE OF SCHOOL BUSES

The Border Land School Division prohibits the use of school buses for purposes other than those related to the normal school activities.  This policy is in compliance with the Public Schools Act, which gives no authority to the Division for use of buses other than for school functions.

Permission may be granted for the non-school use of school buses.  Prior to any such consideration, approval must be provided from the Motor Transport Board and the necessary permit acquired from Manitoba Public Insurance.  Each case will be judged on its own merit.  Use of school buses in these special circumstances shall be at no cost to the Division.

For the use of school buses in respect to emergency situations, the Board is prepared to proceed as required by the Emergency Measures Act or as per local Emergency Assistance Agreements.

BUSINESS AND PERSONNEL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

The Board may authorize the use of a school bus:

  • To transport students for the purpose of participating in or attending extracurricular activities.
  • To transport trustees, teachers, and divisional staff while on divisional sanctioned activities.
  • As may be required for the purpose of repairing or servicing the bus.
