Border Land School Division believes:

  • that performance on learning outcomes increases when children are not hungry at school,
  • that educating for healthy eating habits is important so children gain knowledge to take into adulthood,
  • that the food and beverages sold and served in schools should be nutritious.

Border Land School Division supports and plans for nutrition equity by providing universal school nutrition programs, specific to the needs of each school community.

School based nutrition programs are to be planned and reported on following the reporting processes outlined by the granting organizations.  Funds from the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba, the Provincial Government, and the Federal Government must be used to create universally accessible nutrition programs.  These programs may consist of one or all of the following: snacks, beverages, and full meal programs

All schools shall:

  • follow the divisional nutrition procedure and outlined reporting procedures,
  • communicate and ask for feedback from the Parent Council (if available) about the nutrition program provided in their building,
  • communicate to the broader school community the details of the school accessible nutrition program available at their school location,
  • provide only items as recommended in the Manitoba Healthy Food in Schools guide in canteens, vending machines, and at classroom/school celebrations,
  • sell nutritious food and beverages for fund-raising purposes.
