HOUSE SYSTEM BACKGROUND
The House System was introduced to Roseau Valley School during the second semester of the 2013-14 school year.
The purpose for creating Houses is to build a sense of community, responsibility, belonging and spirit in our school with all our students, staff and community partners.
The House System encourages participation in sporting and extra-curricular activities and promotes leadership development.
The House System promotes a keen but good-natured rivalry between House teams to see who will win the House Trophy each year. Points towards this prize accumulate from the various sporting and extra-curricular events that are held throughout the school year.
By setting up a House System, we suspect that strong house loyalty and a sense of fun and friendly competition will capture the school atmosphere.
The four houses at our school will be represented by: Knights, Pirates, Spartans and Vikings.
All students and staff members (teaching faculty, support staff, office staff, custodial staff, lunch attendants, student teachers) will be placed in a House.
The plan is to have all RVS students taking part in the house system eventually, however at this time it will be introduced to students between grades 7 to 12. After the system is implemented and running smoothly, we will then add students from Kindergarten to grade 6.
Once a student or staff member is placed into a house, they will remain in that house as long as they are at RVS.
In order to provide further opportunity for community within each house, students in grades 9 to 12 will be placed into homerooms based on their house assignments. There will be two homerooms for each house, each homeroom will contain students from grades 9 to 12.
Each house will have a student leader and a staff leader. The student leaders will be students in grade 12 and it will be their responsibility to lead the members in their house in various activities and challenges to accumulate points for their house.
Each House has the opportunity to generate points for their House by actively participating in a number of activities that the staff has agreed can be awarded points such as but not limited to:
Coaches track points for their team members and submit them to be added to our House Points running total. House Student Leaders will also assist the staff in tracking points.

Points are never subtracted from a House or student for negative behaviour. If a House is falling behind then the Staff may decide to introduce an activity that will boost up the points for this House. The House points are displayed and regularly updated.
HOUSE OF THE MONTH
The House with the most points accumulated within a month will be allocated bonus points as the House of the Month.
END OF SCHOOL YEAR
All points contribute to the overall House competition, and an update of the House Team Points will be made available on a regular basis throughout the school year.
At the end of the year the House with the most points will be declared the winner in a school assembly and receive the House Trophy for the year.
